Visit Chevrolet for more information on the Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

The Monte Carlo Supercharged SS debuted last year, becoming an instant hit with NASCAR enthusiasts and all fans of coupes with power, precision and confidence. Inspired by the NASCAR Winston Cup Monte Carlo racer, the Supercharged SS is offered for those people that like to drive with the hair on the back of their necks standing straight up.

Like the regular Monte Carlo, the Supercharged SS is given OnStar as standard equipment this year. As valuable for safety purposes as it is for sheer convenience, the new sixth generation version is the most advanced system yet.

Available Models
The 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Supercharged SS is a sole model. The regular Monte Carlo is covered in a separate review.

Interior Features
The Supercharged SS features an interior with a six-gauge cluster with boost gauge, full door-width kick plates featuring the Monte Carlo nameplate and "Supercharged SS" badging. Cool, in other words.

Other standard features for 2005 include air conditioning with dual-zone manual climate controls, an interior air filter, power mirrors, windows and door locks, remote keyless entry, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls, cruise control and an AM/FM/CD player.

Exterior Features
The Supercharged SS certainly looks the part of a speedster. In addition to color-keyed bodyside moldings, full-perimeter ground effects and integrated fog lamps, it also has a race-inspired spoiler and dual bright stainless-steel exhaust tips.
For 2005, 17-inch diamond-cut cast aluminum wheels with chrome finish are available on the Supercharged SS. Three new colors are offered across the line as well: Laser Blue Metallic, Sport Red Metallic and Silverstone Metallic.

The heart and soul of this Monte Carlo undoubtedly rests under its hood in the form of a 3.8-liter supercharged Series II V6 engine that pumps out 240 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. The torque curve is consistently high over a broad operating range, providing instant, off-the-line acceleration and ample power for highway merging and passing.

In fact, boost levels of up to 8 pounds can be monitored via the boost gauge integrated into the instrument cluster. The engine is mated to a heavy-duty version of the Hydra-Matic 4T65-E 4-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. The final drive ratio of this transmission is 2.93:1.

Safety and Security
The 2005 Monte Carlo also shares a racecar's attention to safety. Available safety equipment includes antilock disc brakes, a side airbag, the OnStar system, a tire-inflation monitoring system, a passive theft-deterrent system and remote keyless entry.
