Big vans like the 2005 Chevy Express offer no-frills, heavy-duty
cargo and passenger-carrying ability. They have big, strong
engines, durable construction features and plenty of space.
That pretty much sums up the story of the 2005 Chevrolet
Express, regular length version.
The regular-wheelbase Express gets the sole upgrade to
the line for 2005. It is the addition of StabiliTrak on
12-passenger models. This follows the introduction of StabiliTrak
on extended-wheelbase 12 and 15-passenger models during
the 2004 model year.
The 2005 regular length Chevy Express is offered in four
models: G1500, H1500, G2500 and G3500.
The 2005 Chevy Express regular length has a wheelbase of
135 inches. ½-ton G1500 and H1500 models, ¾-ton
G2500 models and 1-ton G3500 models all have the ability
to sit up to twelve passengers. In addition, there is a
massive 267.3 cubic feet of cargo space to work with.
It's all about functional equipment with the Express, as
opposed to frills and useless pleasantries. Express has
integrated armrests, door pull handles, window and lock

Regular length 2005 Express models have two swing-open rear
cargo doors and, on the passenger side, either 60/40 doors
or a sliding door. 60/40 doors on the driver side are optional.
Trusty Vortec power is chosen to drive the Express stable
of workhorses. H1500 models have added security with standard
all-wheel drive; all other Express trims use a rear-wheel
drive setup. 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission with
torque converter is spread across the lineup.
G1500 models feature a 4.3-liter Vortec V6 engine with
195 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. AWD H1500s have
a 5.3-liter Vortec V8 with 295 horsepower and 330 lb-ft
of torque (optional with G1500).
Larger models have added power. The G2500 comes with a
4.8-liter Vortec V8 with 285 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of
torque. 1-ton G3500 models are equipped with a 6.0-liter
Vortec V8 with 300 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque. This
engine is optional with G2500s.
