Chevrolet presents the Aveo with the question, "how
many students can fit inside?" That alone should give
you a clue as to the market segment the Aveo targets. As
a tiny model that nevertheless seems to offer a good deal
of interior space, the Aveo is one of the most inexpensive
vehicles you can buy.
So while it isn't exactly a good idea to cram as many students
as possible into an Aveo, it is a good buy for the more
sober aspects of a student's life.
The 2005 Chevrolet AVeo lineup includes a four-door sedan
and a stylish five-door hatchback. Each seats five adults
and is available in three trim levels: the Special Value
Model (SVM), LS and LT.
Interior flexibility is one of the more useful features
of the 2005 Chevrolet Aveo. The rear seat of the sedan folds
flat for more cargo room and allows pass-through from the
trunk. The hatchback, on the other hand, offers the only
rear seat in the segment that folds flat and flips forward,
for a segment-leading 42 cubic feet of cargo area.
Standard features for all models include a tilt steering
column, an AM/FM stereo, a six-way adjustable driver seat,
a rear-window defroster and a remote fuel door. Also included
are a storage pocket on the back of the front passenger
seat and a lighted glove box.
Options include a theft-deterrent system, an AM/FM/CD/MP3
player and premium speakers.
2005 sees an upgrade in the Aveo's exterior equipment package.
This year, SVM and LS models get restyled wheel covers,
and all Aveos add a black roof-pillar trim.
The 2005 Chevrolet Aveo's performance is guided by an E-TEC
II 1.6-liter dual overhead cam, 16-valve inline 4-cylinder
engine. It is able to produce 103 horsepower at 6000 rpm
and 107 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm.
There are two transmissions available: 4-speed automatic
and 5-speed manual. Automatics have a fuel rating of 26/34
mpg (city/highway), while manuals do slightly better with
a rating of 27/35 mpg (city/highway).
Safety and Security
The 2005 Chevrolet Aveo also is the only light car to receive
the government's highest safety rating for frontal crash
performance-five stars for both driver and front passenger.
Aveo's standard dual diagonal brake system includes large
ventilated front discs and self-adjusting rear drum brakes.
The rear brakes have a wide lining for increased service
life. A four-channel, four-sensor ABS system with electronic
brake force distribution (EBD) is available as an option.
