Not old at all, the Honda Odyssey has already managed to
win praise from all angles, all the while causing rivals
to rethink the design of their own minivans. With power,
spaciousness and safety, it's no wonder that Automobile
magazine honored the Odyssey with the title, "Best
The Odyssey is one of the better-selling minivans on the
road today. Though 2004 doesn't see any ground-shattering
changes to the model, it still comes in at a reasonable
price for the type of service it gives. And with a 240-horsepower
Honda powertrain leading the way, you can safely bet that
the Odyssey will be driving the family around for years
The 2004 Honda Odyssey is offered in three trim levels:
LX, EX and EX-L.
The 2004 Honda Odyssey doesn't try to cram in the passengers.
It has three rows of seating for a capacity of seven. The
third row folds flush with the floor, and the capable minivan
then offers 146.1 cubic feet of cargo volume.
There are quite a few standard items that come with each
and every Honda Odyssey model, though the upper level trims
obviously add more. The 'L' in the EX-L trim's name refers
to its lush leather upholstery. Also standard with this
top-line model are heated front seats-a nice feature to
have as winter approaches.
EX-L models also offer the most attractive options available
for 2004. Two that really stand out are a DVD entertainment
system and a useful navigation system.
The Odyssey's look is clean and modest. Dual sliding side
doors are power operated on all models but the entry-level
Honda guarantees the 2004 Honda Odyssey's durability, pointing
out that the minivan should require no major tune-ups for
the first 105,000 miles. Putting the 240 horsepower to use
is a 5-speed automatic transmission. It features advanced
Grade Logic Control, which avoids gear hunting on uphills
and descents. It also downshifts for added engine braking.
The engine that pumps out the 240 horsepower is a 3.5-liter
V6 model. It delivers the horsepower at 5500 rpm, offering
up to 242 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm as well.
All 2004 Honda Odyssey models come with standard traction
control. It gives the minivan stability and cornering control,
among other things.
Safety and Security
In addition to traction control, all Honda Odysseys also
have dual front airbags, front side airbags and antilock
4-wheel disc brakes.
New for the 2004 Honda Odyssey
2004 Odyssey adds no new exterior colors but the interior
color on Redrock Pearl models is paired with a Saddle
interior (changed from Gray). Odyssey colors are Midnight
Blue Pearl, Nighthawk Black Pearl, Sage Brush Pearl
