This year's version of Honda's popular car is the 17th
Accord to be named to Car and Driver's "10 Best"
list in the past 21 years. With a record like that, the
manufacturer doesn't even need a marketing campaign-the
car will practically sell itself.
For 2004, satellite radio is available with Honda's midsize
car. Curtain side airbags are also offered in an expanded
role. Safe, reliable, durable and refined, there is really
nothing wanting with the 2004 Honda Accord.
The 2004 Honda Accord is offered in two-coupe and four-door
sedan body styles. There are six trims in total: DX, LX,
LX V6, EX, EX-L and EX V6.
Both sedans and coupes seat five passengers, with comparable
cargo volume numbers. The diversity of models available
lets customers really have a choice in terms of standard
The base DX model gets you such things as an AM/FM/CD player,
a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, cloth upholstery, a center
console, a folding rear seat and power windows. Uplevel
EX-L models throw in dual-zone automatic climate controls,
leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated
front seats and the new satellite radio.
One of the optional pieces of equipment for 2004 is a navigations
system with voice recognition.
The look of the 2004 Honda Accord is clean and flowing.
It comes in eight distinct colors this year. More refined
than flashy, it doesn't mind getting noticed-but it doesn't
need to either.
Two engines drive the 2004 Honda Accord. DX, LX and EX models
all come with a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder engine. It can
be mated to either 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission,
and it produces 160 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 161 lb-ft
of torque at 4500 rpm.
Not surprisingly, the 2004 Honda Accord LX V6 and EX V6
models feature a V6 engine. It is a 3.0-liter motor, and
it cranks out 240 horsepower at 6250 rpm and 212 lb-ft of
torque at 5000 rpm. 5-speed automatic is the sole transmission
offered with this engine.
The 2004 Honda Accord has double wishbone suspension to
give occupants a smooth ride. It glides over bumpy roads
and highways and handles dips quite well. Not an off-roader
by any stretch of the imagination, it still manages to dampen
the effects of weather-battered pavement.
Safety and Security
All models have dual front airbags and antilock brakes.
Starting with the LX V6, traction control and front side
airbags become standard. EX-L models add curtain side airbags.
