Standing atop the SUV line-up from Toyota is the 2003 Toyota Land Cruiser. This is a full-size SUV with a vast array of luxury items, a solid performance portfolio and a range of engine choices allowing for different needs and purposes. A premium vehicle, the Land Cruiser gains significant mechanical, exterior and interior enhancements for 2003. From improved responsiveness to increased ease of manoeuvring in tight-quarters, this SUV has seen improvement.

Safety enhancements also play a role with next-generation airbag sensors that accompany multi-stage driver and front passenger airbags. Optional extras are newly available front and second-row side-impact side curtain airbags.

Available Models
Similar to some of the other Toyota models, the 2003 Toyota Land Cruiser is a workhorse with one trim level and model. However, unlike some of the other one-model lines, this does not start with bare bones and give you lots of options to add to it. Instead, the 2003 Toyota Land Cruiser offers a ton of features with all models and then provides the same assortment of optional extras for consumer choice to win the day.

Interior Features
A Land Cruiser starts with seating for eight adult passengers or, with the second and third seat rows folded 90.8 feet of storage space. A luxury oriented vehicle, it is standard equipped with items like the 300 Watt, 3-in-1 AM/FM/ETR/cassette/CD audio system that includes an in-dash six-disc CD changer which plays through seven speakers.

Other conveniences include one-touch up/down power windows with pinch protection, power door locks, a multi-information display, a HomeLink® universal remote garage door opener, heated side mirrors, automatic on/off headlamps with daytime running lights, cruise control, multiple 12-volt power outlets and a security system with engine immobilizer. Like the windows, a power tilt/slide sunroof has a one-touch open/close control with pinch protection.

Exterior Features
2003 sees some refinement to the Toyota Land Cruiser's exterior. In front, a new chrome-styled grille and new bumper is in place while at the rear, styling is distinguished for 2003 by new badging and clear-lens turn signals. 275/65R17 tires are now standard, making for a lower profile than previous years and an 18-inch tire package is optional.

Performance
The 2003 Toyota Land Cruiser is equipped with a 4.7-liter dohc V8 engine that gets 235hp and .a serious 320 lb.-ft of torque that peaks at 3,400 rpm, but, has 80 percent available at as low as 1,100 rpm. The Land Cruiser can pull up to 6,500 pounds using a 5-speed automatic transmission that replaces the previous 4-speed.

But this is a go anywhere, do anything vehicle. A minimum ground clearance of 9.8 inches and sharp approach, departure and ramp break-over angles mean the Land Cruiser can tackle tough trails with confidence. Confidence boosted by the heavy-duty steel skid plates protecting the front suspension, transfer case and fuel tank.

Safety and Security
Four-wheel anti-lock brakes with special response to steep slopes, Vehicle Skid Control (VSC) and an Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) feature are all standard on this Toyota, allowing the driver more control. Optional safety add-ons include front-side airbags, curtain-side airbags and daytime running lights to give the Land Cruiser a leading position in SUV safety.
