Visit Ford for more information on the Ford Freestyle.

The 2005 Ford Freestyle is brand new for Ford, their entry into the bounding crossover SUV market. Wanting to compete directly with the Subaru Forester, Nissan Murano, Lexus 330 and many others, and able to fit it handily into their most diversified 2005 line-up, Ford has built the Freestyle from the ground up. This isn't a Ford Ranger with a lid on it or a minivan with a different body style.

Instead, Ford has created a vehicle with seven-passenger comfort, SUV-crossover versatility and all-wheel-drive capability.

Available Models
The all-new 2005 Ford Freestyle is offered in base SE, SEL and Limited trims that are similar in offerings to their sedan line-ups.

Interior Features
The 2005 Ford Freestyle offers dozens of seating configurations - for hauling people, cargo or any combination of both, with full-size SUV cargo capacity with its seats folded. According to Ford, thanks to purpose-built crossover architecture, no competitive vehicle offers as much combined passenger room in three rows of seating best-in-class second- and third-row legroom and third-row knee clearance.

The Ford Freestyle offers great standards on all models with a basic allotment (SE Trim) of front air conditioning, power steering, mirrors, windows, door locks, remote keyless entry and keypad entry. Cloth upholstery covers front bucket seats and both 2nd and 3rd row stowable bench seats. The driver's seat is 6-way powered and the passenger seat folds flat. AM/FM/CD player, digital clock and tachometer are all also included at this basic trim.

Optional extras and trim upgrades can add notable amenities like heated power mirrors, in-dash 6-disc CD/MP3 changer, trip computer, automatic day/night rearview mirror, a compass, dual-zone automatic climate controls, leather upholstery, heated front seats and so on.

Exterior Features
The Ford Freestyle is somewhat similar to a Volvo station-wagon with SUV features and Ford's contemporary styling with a long hood, high beltline, large wheels and tires, aggressive "grille-guard"-style lower fascia, flared wheel arches, large side mirrors and hefty strap-style door handles.

Performance
Power for the 2005 Ford Freestyle comes from Ford's proven 3.0-liter V-6 engine, the Duratec 30, matched to an all-new continuously variable transmission. A combination of stiff chassis, high-torque V-6 and wide-ratio transmission makes for solid acceleration, whether you choose 2WD (front-wheel) or the all-wheel-drive system option. This newly refined Duratec 30 engine offers exceptional emissions performance, meeting the much tougher federal Tier II, Bin 5 definition and California LEV II standards for low-emission vehicles.

Safety and Security
With tips from Volvo, safety has become a watchword at Ford and they have been developing all their vehicles with class-leading safety innovation and standard safety equipment that rivals any other make. The Freestyle is no exception. with Ford's Personal Safety System adding new features that address impact protection and the innovative Safety Canopy that offers head protection for all three rows of occupants in side impacts and rollovers.

These innovations include an adaptive steering column that collapses horizontally at two different speeds, based on whether the driver is belted or not and air-bag deployment that is tailored to the position of the driver's seat, to crash impact and to weight sensors in the front passenger seat. This system can suppress the passenger air bag altogether if conditions warrant it.
