Visit BMW for more information on the BMW Z4.

The 2003 BMW Z4 Roadster is a regular, everyday driving car that can be used a commuter or a handy weekend cruiser to get to the cottage or the golf course. However, it is also one of the most distinctive, capable and desirable cars on the market in the mid-luxury 2-seater sports car class. Choose between a couple of different and engines and, unlike last year's very successful Z3, forget about the Coupe model. There isn't one. Instead pick either the manual or power soft-top convertible.

Available Models
There are two models of Z4 Roadster: the 2003 BMW Z4 2.5i and the BMW Z4 3.0i. The difference is mostly about the engine choices but there are slight enhancements to the trim level with the more powerful, upper grade 3.0i.

Interior Features
The interior of the 2003 BMW Z4 is simple and elegant and comes with a large number of basic features like power windows, mirrors, door locks, etc. A 10-speaker AM/FM/CD player adds value along with leatherette upholstery, and much more. Optional extras include stand alone and any of three comprehensive package additions; Convenience, Sport and Premium. These are fairly self-explanatory in that Premium upgrades luxury content and materials, Convenience adds do for you features like automatic climate control, while Sport adds a performance enhancements to the form and function of the car.

Exterior Features
Four headlights with aerodynamic covers featuring halogen ellipsoid lights, a heated rear glass, and car-speed sensitive wipers make up visibility-enhancing exterior items. Optional are Bi-xenon headlights, fog lights, heated windshield washer jets, heated side mirrors and the fully automatic soft-top. The manual roof is the standard offering.

Performance
The two engines that really set these two models apart are both V6 with power to spare. The first, on the 2.5-liter, is an I6 that produces 184 hp at 5500 rpm and 175 lb-ft of torque at 3500. It comes teamed with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic transmission. These combinations achieve 20/28 mpg (city/hwy) and 21/28 mpg, respectively.

The 3.0-liter I6, predictably in the Z4 3.0i, has 225 hp at 5900 rpm and 214 lb-ft of torque at 3500. This one comes standard with a 5-speed automatic transmission but it can be coupled with a higher-cost, close ratio, sport-tuned 6-speed manual. This model is able to achieve 20/28 mpg and 21/29 mpg (city/hwy), respectively.

Safety and Security
The active safety includes traction control, an antiskid system, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, active knee protection, a tire-inflation monitor and run-flat 225/50VR16 tires. Front and side airbags, roll bars and various advanced handling systems are also in place.
