Visit Jeep for more information on the Jeep Wrangler.

The Jeep Wrangler is perhaps the most unique vehicle on the road today. A simple mention of the Wrangler and you instantly conjure up an image of the rugged off-roader. It is perhaps so dominant that sometimes people associate the Wrangler with the entire Jeep division, neglecting such other models as the Grand Cherokee and the Liberty.

You know what you're going to get with the Wrangler: a compact model with plenty of driving fun that results from its performance ability and open-aired configuration.

Now, the 2005 Jeep Wrangler is also offered in a larger Unlimited model. The Unlimited offers more refined, on-road comfort and quietness because of its longer 103-inch wheelbase-10 inches longer than the original Wrangler.

Available Models
The 2005 Jeep Wrangler is offered in six models: SE, X, Sport, Unlimited, Rubicon and Unlimited Rubicon. Rubicon models are covered in a separate review.

Interior Features
The versatility and functionality of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler is increased with the additional 13 inches of space behind the Unlimited's second row, giving the Jeep double the amount of cargo capacity. The additional two inches in the second row provide more leg and knee room for passengers, and access to the second row is improved with tip and slide front seats added to the driver's side.

Options for 2005 include tinted glass, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and an audio group that includes an AM/FM radio with a 6-disc CD changer and an upgraded sound system.

Exterior Features
Wranglers are available with a soft top and plastic side windows or with an extra-cost hardtop with glass windows. The Unlimited's soft top features a fold-back forward section for a sunroof effect.

Performance
Entry-level SE models come with a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder engine that pumps out 147 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 165 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. It is coupled to a brand-new 6-speed manual transmission.

X, Sport and Unlimited use a 4.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine. It produces 190 horsepower at 4600 rpm and 235 lb-ft of torque at 3200 rpm. The I6 can be had with the new 6-speed manual transmission or an optional 4-speed automatic system.

All models have a standard 4-wheel drive system that must be disengaged on dry pavement but includes low-range gearing.

Safety and Security
Safety features standard on all Jeep Wranglers include next-generation airbags, a driver's side constant force retractor, self-adjusting low-tension three-point belts, height-adjustable shoulder belts and energy-absorbing foam in the sport bar and trim around the windshield and back of the hard top.

Antilock brakes are optional on 2005 Sport models.
