Visit Chrysler for more information on the Chrysler Town & Country.

Town and Country is rumoured to be due for a revamp in the next year or two but in the meantime, the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country minivan is on the scene and it has some upgrades in the form of a couple of stowaway seats. Other, than that, Chrysler has kept the model the same, filling the void that used to be filled by the Voyager with this upscale family option. The range of trims and the sheer capability of this minivan to meet many needs will ensure its continued success.

Available Models
The 2005 Chrysler Town & Country is offered in 4 models: the Base and LX, described here and the up-level trim models, Touring and Limited, covered in a separate review.

Interior Features
Now that the Town & Country has stowaway seats, it has even more room, and even the base models have a good selection of standard interior amenity. Add some select optional extras, if desired and the Town and Country will be a smart and reliable purchase. Staring with the base, interior amenities include A/C up front, cruise control, cloth upholstery on front bucket, 2nd-row bench and 3rd-row folding bench seats, power mirrors, windows and door locks with remote keyless entry, CD audio, variable-intermittent wipers, map lights, an intermittent rear wiper/washer, automatic-off headlights, and more. This isn't bad for base trim.

Upgrade to the LX and you add stowable seats (they fold-flat for convenient cargo capacity) throughout and heated power mirrors. What's more, the majority of premium options are no longer reserved for LX models and are available on Base models as well. These include rear-seat video entertainment system, particularly useful with kids on long, boring trips, and many other electronic add-ons: UConnect hands free cellular, satellite radio, the list goes on.

Exterior Features
A power liftgate and power operation for one or both sliding side doors is an available option for the LX and Base models but standards include rear privacy class, 215/70R15 tires and wheel covers.

Performance
The front-wheel drive 2005 Town & Country Base and LX models are equipped with a 3.3-liter V6 mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission and generates 180 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 210 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. This powerful engine manages a respectable 19/26 mpg (city/hwy) and can be enhanced for towing by the addition of the optional trailer towing prep group that significantly adds to capability with load-leveling rear suspension, enhanced engine cooling capacity, heavy-duty alternator and battery, and a trailer-wiring harness.

Safety and Security
All but the base model have antilock brakes. Standard features for all models include driver and passenger multi-stage airbags that inflate with force appropriate to the severity of impact, the LATCH child seat system and an automatic transaxle brake-park interlock. Curtain side airbags and traction control are now options for both models.
