Visit Chrysler for more information on the Chrysler Town & Country.

Chrysler was a leader in the minivan business and for twenty years, has set the standard for interior amenity, cargo capacity and performance in these family-friendly vehicles. Last year, the Voyager was phased out and so this year, the 2005 Chrysler Town and Country is the company's minivan flag-bearer. The Town and Country Touring and Limited models, the highest trim levels are the best in the business for minivan standards and power.

Rear-seat DVD entertainment, six-disc CD/DVD changer, automatic paired sliding doors and power rear lift-gate, a V8 engine give the Town and Country the head-turning attractiveness that make people realize why minivans have had such a commanding position for so long, and still do, despite incursions from new classes and styles of vehicle.

Available Models
The 2005 Chrysler Town & Country is offered in four models: Base, LX, , Touring and Limited. Base and LX models are covered in a separate review.

Interior Features
This year the Town and Country has stowable 2nd-row bucket seats, stowable 3rd-row bench seating and a removable center console for long items. A roomy and practical minivan but also one filled with luxury amenities.

At the Touring level, owners and passengers enjoy tri-zone manual climate controls (including rear controls), front and rear air conditioning and heater, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, and cloth upholstery on 8 and 4-way power driver and passenger seats. Don't forget the power sliding rear doors, power liftgate, CD Audio player, a trip computer, and universal garage-door opener. Upgrade to the top-level T and C Limited edition and you have everything else; heated seats, navigation system, Infinity CD/DVD system, the works.

Naturally though, there are a few options left, adding even more: satellite radio, hands-free UConnect cellular and so on.

Exterior Features
A power liftgate and power operation for one or both sliding side doors is standard on all but base and LX models.

Performance
The engine under the hood of Touring and Limited models is a 3.8-liter V6 engine that produces 215 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 245 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. It is mated to 4-speed automatic transmission and manages 18/25mpg (city/hwy).

Both models come with a tire-pressure monitor for 2004. Load-leveling height control suspension is standard on the Limited trim.

Safety and Security
Dual front airbags, traction control, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, automatic-off headlights and the LATCH child seat system are standard. Front side airbags and fog lights come with the Limited model. Rear-obstacle and doorway-obstacle protection are available as optional extras.
