Visit Cadillac for more information on the Cadillac Escalade ESV.

The 2005 Cadillac SRX is back for its first full year. Introduced in August of 2004 for the first time, the SRX is a medium-luxury, car-based mid-sized SUV. The SRX has the versatility and ruggedness of the mid-sized SUV segment all wrapped in a package of Cadillac luxury and convenience. This year, with many of their models, that convenience also extends to safety and security. Refinements and upgrades to OnStar and other communications options mean that SRX drivers are protected not only by performance innovation, but through the provision of information, about the weather, traffic and even the stock market!

Other additions for the 2005 season include an instrument cluster with chrome accents and exterior style changes like Sand Storm exterior paint (replaces Cashmere) and darker privacy glass. Technological performance hardware had also been upgraded; the trailering package is available on the V-6 models and the optional trailer capacity is increased to 4,250 pounds (1,928 kg). What's more, Cadillac's patented Magnetic Ride Control available with RWD models.

Though it is in the luxury utility segment, the SRX has the feel and look of a sedan. This is because it borrows the same Sigma architecture used by the Cadillac CTS. Modified for the SRX, the result is the longest wheelbase in its class and a superior ride quality and dynamic stability.

Available Models
The 2005 Cadillac SRX is offered in a V6 model and a V8 model, two different levels of trim to go with those different power profiles and a large assortment of options and options packages. It also has rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive models (AWD).

Interior Features
The four-door SRX wagon has an optional two-passenger third-row seat that powers up or down flush with the rear cargo floor. This gives the SRX the ability to seat up to seven people.

It wouldn't be a Cadillac if it weren't loaded to the brim with standard features. V6 models have a lot; V8 models even more. Air conditioning with dual-zone automatic climate controls, a tilt leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio and climate controls, cruise control and leather upholstery are standard with both. This year Cadillac has a new initiative with OnStar; Cadillac Virtual Advisor uses the OnStar telematics system to provide weather forecasts, traffic info in a 15-miles range from your car and on up to three personalized routes and to top it off, info on up to 10 stocks from the DJI and Nasdaq markets.

One of the most appealing options is the largest sunroof in the segment. The optional "UltraView" sunroof extends to provide 5.6 feet of open air over the first and second row seats and integrates a retractable power shade.

Exterior Features
The wagon-style 2005 Cadillac SRX has a sleek, shiny look with a front-end that reminds one of the CTS. V6 models use 17-inch wheels; V8s 18-inchers. The SRX also has a manual liftgate without a separate opening window.

Performance
Rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations are available. The V6 is a 3.6-liter variable-valve timing model that produces 255 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 250 lb-ft of torque at 3200 rpm. 5-speed automatic with manual-shift capability is the sole transmission.

The V8 engine is a 4.6-liter Northstar variable-valve timing model. It lets the SRX really move with 320 horsepower at 6400 rpm and 315 lb-ft of torque at 4400 rpm.

The new Cadillac SRX also features the latest four-channel StabiliTrak active suspension control and available segment-first Magnetic Ride Control. The electronically controlled magnetic-fluid based real-time damping is the world's fastest-reacting suspension control system.

Safety and Security
The safety features are plentiful. Dual front airbags, side airbags, front and second-row curtain side airbags, an antiskid system, a rear-obstacle detection system and antilock 4-wheel disc brakes are all standard.
