Visit Volvo for more information on the Volvo V70.

If there's one thing Volvo knows how to make, it's a functional wagon. The Swedish company is practically stereotyped as being a manufacturer that solely produces wagons. Not a bad thing, mind you, but they do a lot more than that.

The 2004 Volvo V70 is one such wagon. It is designed for families and individuals who don't want to sacrifice driving pleasure to get the freedom of high functionality they desire. Volvo brags that the V70 line of vehicles combines unparalleled flexibility, longevity, comfort and handling without compromising Volvo's long tradition of quality, advanced safety design and durability.

When you consider that the people at Volvo know what they're talking about, it's hard not to take them for their word.

Available Models
The 2004 Volvo V70 is offered in four trims: 2.4, 2.5T, T5 and R. The T5 and the all-new R are covered separately.
Interior Features

Interior space is the result of the wagon's design. The four-door 2004 Volvo V70 accommodates five passengers with two rows of seats, as well as providing up to 71.5 cubic feet of cargo space.

2.4 and 2.5T versions of the V70 are on the entry-level side of the model equation for 2004. Still, as Volvos they are nicely equipped. Both come with a tilt/telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls, cruise control, heated power mirrors, power windows and door locks, an AM/FM/cassette/CD player and more.

On top of that, the 2.5T has a memory system for the driver seat and mirrors, and an 8-way power driver seat. 2.5T AWD models add heated front seats.

Exterior Features
Rain-sensing wipers are another feature you get standard with the 2.5T AWD. They let you completely focus on the road ahead. Alloy wheels are offered with both models.

Performance
While not speed demons, the 2004 Volvo V70 2.4 and 2.5T can certainly do well enough to keep up with traffic. If you move up to the new R trim (covered separately), the performance borders on the ridiculous.

Base 2.4 models come equipped with a 2.9-liter inline 5-cylinder engine with 168 horsepower at 5900 rpm and 170 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm. 5-speed manual and 5-speed automatic transmissions are both available.

Both 2.5T models use a 2.5-liter, turbocharged I5 with 208 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 236 lb-ft of torque at 1500 rpm. 5-speed automatic transmission is standard.

Safety and Security
The safety features for the 2004 Volvo V70 include dual front airbags, front side airbags, curtain side airbags, traction control, front-seat active head restraints and antilock 4-wheel disc brakes.
