Visit Chevrolet for more information on the Chevy Silverado.

The 2004 Chevy Silverado SS is the top of the line when it comes to ½-ton models. It dips into Chevrolet's "Super Sport" heritage and adapts it to a modern lifestyle. Suffice it to say, the SS is one performance-driven pickup truck.

The SS badge has been adorning special Chevrolet vehicles for over four decades. When you see it on a model, you know that great pains have been taken to produce exceptional strength, handling and acceleration characteristics. There's also a good measure of attitude thrown in as well.

Available Models
The 2004 Chevrolet Silverado SS is a sole model trim. 1500 regular cabs, extended cabs and crew cabs, plus 2500s and HD models, are all covered in individual reviews.

Interior Features
Essentially a supped-up extended cab with a short cargo bed, the 2004 Chevy Silverado SS has a 3-person rear bench seat. With a front bench seat, it will accommodate a total of six passengers.

All 2004 Chevy Silverados are more intelligent than before, and the 1500 SS is no exception. It has an advanced multiplexed electrical architecture that enables the driver information center to monitor and report on as many as 34 system functions.

With the SS, in addition power, you are also treated to supreme interior comfort. Some of the items that work towards this goal are air conditioning, the OnStar System, leather upholstery, heated front bucket seats, a Bose AM/FM radio with in-dash 6-disc CD changer and steering-wheel radio controls.

Exterior Features
The Silverado SS has 6.5-ft. short cargo bed. It also features Silverado's largest-ever, 20-inch wheel and tire combination.

The Chevy Silverado SS is designed to perform, and it doesn't disappoint. Under its hood is a 6.0-liter/ 364-cu. in high-output LQ9 version Vortec V8 engine. Topped-out, it will produce 345 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 380 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm.

To this engine is mated a 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission whose 3.06 first gear and 0.70 final gear contribute to the truck's impressive performance.

The 2004 Chevy Silverado SS grabs corners and whips around them, and it plows through mud and grime. This is made possible by its large wheels and a standard full-time, all-wheel-drive (AWD) system with viscous-coupled transfer case.

Safety and Security
The Chevy Silverado SS, like all Silverado models, is tough and sturdy. Its frame is solid, able to withstand collisions that might seriously damage smaller cars. Standard safety equipment includes dual front airbags, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes and daytime running lights.
