Visit Volvo for more information on the Volvo S60.

The Volvo sedan line comes with three classes, the accessible S40, the top-level S80 and the S60, a performance oriented sport sedan distinguished by a nimble and ample power, whichever of the four versions you decide to buy.

Also present in full measure on the 2003 Volvo S60 is this manufacturer's legendary focus on safety, longevity, comfort, handling and quality.

Available Models
There are four grades of S60, all with different engines and power profiles. In order, from least to highest powered, they are the base S60, the turbocharged S60 2.4T, the all-wheel drive turbocharged S60 2.5T AWD and finally, at the top level, the sporty, high-powered S60 T5.

Interior Features
Most features are available on all models but with each grade come one or two significant interior improvements. Items like air conditioning, a tilt leather-wrapped steering wheel and an AM/FM/CD player are all on the list of basic equipment.

A move to the 2.4T adds an 8-way power driver seat and dual-zone automatic climate control. At the AWD 2.5T, Climate Package features, like rain-sensing wipers and heated front seats, are included. The T5 lacks the heated seats of the AWD but instead it has some touring oriented specifics of its own like a trip computer, power passenger seat and an automatic day/night rear-view mirror.

Exterior Features
On the outside the various S60 models are quite similar, however, the base model has the smallest tire of the four, with 195/65HR15 tires, and a single rear fog light only. The 2.4T and the T5 both have front fogs and slightly wider, lower profile tires. This gives the car a leaner, road-hugging demeanour. The AWD has slightly smaller tires.

Performance
These models are all distinguished from one another first, by engine type. The S60 runs the gamut of 5-cylinder Volvo engines with these four different choices. The 2.4 is a 5-cylinder with 168 hp at 5900 rpm and 170 lb-ft of torque at 4500. This can be teamed to either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission and it can get 21/28 mpg (city/hwy).

The next grade up is the 2.4T, a turbocharged version of the same 5-cylinder. This boosts the hp up to 197 at 6000 rpm and the torque to 210 at a very low 1800. It only comes with the 5-speed automatic transmission. The AWD 2.5T is also a turbocharged engine and almost the same size but the AWD system requires more power and it gets it, with the engine generating 208 hp at 5000 rpm and 236 lb-ft of torque at 1500. It too has a 5-speed automatic transmission. Both these turbo engines manage to get a respectable 21/28 mpg.

Finally, the T5, in contrast, is a high-pressure 2.3-liter turbocharged 5-cylinder with 247 hp at 5200 rpm and 243 lb-ft of torque at 2400. It can be equipped with either a 5-speed automatic or a sport-tuned 5-speed manual transmission and it gets 21/28 mpg. It comes with an antiskid control system.

Safety and Security
The S60 has two stage dual front airbags, side impact airbags (SIPS) and inflatable curtain (IC) airbags and other top-of-the-line Volvo active and passive safety technology as standard equipment on all models.
