The Mazda 626 mid-size sedan has been a staple on the market
for quite some time and has steadily upgraded its performance
to remain a fierce competitor in its class. Along the way,
it was graced with more standard luxuries and intelligent
upgrades. The 626 Sedan features a string of key aesthetic
improvements for 2002, including a new line up of colors
and interior trim.
The 2002 Mazda 626 Sedan is available in three
models that build upon each other in terms of amenities,
performance, and safety. They are the 626 LX, 626 LX V6,
and the 626 ES V6.
With a seating capacity of five passengers, the
626 DX starts us off with cloth seats, a handy 60/40 split
folding rear seat to increase cargo space easily, and a
three-spoke sport steering wheel with tilt feature.
Moving along to the LX, it sports cloth seats, power window,
power door locks, and the comfort of air conditioning on
hot summer days. Another level up brings us to the 626 ES,
which sports premium cloth upholstery, white gauges, and
silver inner door handles.
Whole new selections of eye-catching and modern
colors are offered for 2002 for a revamped look. The LX
and LX-V6 models wear fifteen-inch alloy wheels and chrome
grille, while the ES is equipped with sixteen-inch alloys
and a black chrome grille. The upper two models are also
fitted with dual power outside mirrors.
The Mazda 626 LX Sedan comes with a 2.0-litre,
DOHC, 16-valve four-cylinder engine that kicks out 130 horsepower
and 135 lbs-ft of torque. Cranking it up a few notches,
the LX-V6 and EX-V6 models feature a more powerful 2.5-litre,
DOHC, 24-valve V6 engine.
The standard transmission is five-speed manual, with a
responsive four-speed automatic transmission available as
an option. Rack-and-pinion steering, independent front struts,
and a rear twin-trapezoidal link suspension combine for
an exceptionally smooth and quiet ride.
Safety and Security
Every Mazda 626 Sedan is equipped with standard
safety features such as a driver depowered air bag, passenger
depowered air bag, child seat anchors and tethers, and three-point
seatbelts. Constructed with front and rear crumple zones,

are surrounded with advanced safety design.
Brakes are power-assisted front ventilated disc and rear
drum, with anti-lock brakes available as an option of the
